Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is it okay for the continuous insulation layer to be overtop the sheathing, and the WRB to be overtop and the foam facing outward? Typically, I’ve installed the WRB overtop the sheathing, and then the CI overtop the WRB and facing outward.

A: Yes. The Blueskin VPTech integrated panel was designed to maximize thermal, air and moisture protection performance. While there are various materials and methods to construct a residential wall, the layers of Blueskin VPTech were designed to work together to provide the maximum benefit while minimalizing installation effort.

Q: I have concerns about condensation, how does this product prevent it?

A: Blueskin VPTech has a moisture vapor permeance rating of 1.83 which is semi-permeable based on ASTM E96 testing. See the
Technical Data Sheet for all testing information. Various building calculators that include checks for moisture control can be utilized based on your specifications. Contact Henry Product Support to let us know how we can help.

Q: What is the purpose of the foil facer on the back?

A: The metallicized polymeric facer is sometimes used overtop EPS to gain additional R-value when adjacent to dead air space. In this case, the facer helps balance the panel as the WRB resides atop the other face.

Q: Do I need to worry about bugs tunneling through the product?

A: Like many of our continuous insulation products used for residential walls, Blueskin VPTech is insect-resistant thanks to an additive in the foam.

Q: Do I need to use a specific interior vapor retarder when using Blueskin VPTech?

A: A specific type of vapor retarder will have to be determined based on your specifications. Various building calculators can be utilized to determine the best product type.

Q: Is Blueskin VPTech for new construction only or can it be used in a renovation?

A: Blueskin VPTech can be installed on new residential above grade walls or renovation projects as long as installed in accordance with the Installation Manual.

Q: Can I use Blueskin VPTech over another layer of rigid insulation?

A: If a base of structural sheathing exists under the existing rigid installation, fastener length is adjusted, and the installation is completed in accordance with the Installation Manual – yes! Details are not available for this type of installation.

Q: How much will the GPS foam shrink over time?

A: GPS, which is expanded polystyrene (EPS) infused with graphite, is one of the most dimensionally stable rigid insulations available and will not experience any significant shrinkage or expansion over time.

Q: How should work site damages to panels be addressed?

A: Very minor tears or gouges to the Blueskin facer can be covered with additional VP100, and Moistop sealant where a reverse lap is created. For more extensive damage to the panel, remove the affected area, replace with good material and seal all joints according to the Installation Manual.
